Sex Education star Aimee Lou Wood's BBC comedy Daddy Issues has been renewed for a second season.

Created by Brassic writer Danielle Ward, the series centres around Gemma (Wood) and her hapless father Malcolm (David Morrissey), who move in together after Gemma discovers she's pregnant.

Following its premiere last month, Daddy Issues received widespread acclaim and became the biggest launch for BBC Three since the start of 2022.

Season two will be made up of six episodes, exploring Gemma and Malcolm's new family dynamic after Gemma gave birth to her daughter Sadie at the end of season one.

"Daddy Issues is the most fun I've had on a job and I can't wait to do it again!" said Wood in a statement. "I'm so excited to see what Danielle has cooking for Malcolm, Gemma, Sadie and the gang. I just know it's going to be hilarious and heart melting."

The show's creator Ward also expressed her excitement at its renewal, saying: "A second series? And I've found out by reading this press release? Unbelievable. I'm thrilled to be writing for Aimee and David (and the rest of this fabulous cast) again.

"I love the Moscrips and can't wait to crack on with their continuing adventures. Sure, a bit of a break would be nice but my hair will grow back, right?"

Morrissey added: "I'm delighted to be doing another series of Daddy Issues. Working with Aimee was a dream, and Danielle's writing is so funny and heartwarming! Can't wait!"
