Assistant prosecutor fired after being charged with biting man’s finger; what led officers to him
New details about a road rage incident that led to the firing of an assistant Greene County prosecutor.
As reported on News Center 7 at 5, The road rage incident happened at a traffic light on Woodman Drive near US-35 around 12:30 a.m. on June 30.
The victim allegedly fought with Christopher Murray after an apparent road rage incident, but Murray’s phone fell out as several passing drivers called 911.
“There’s these guys fighting right over the bridge,” one caller told dispatchers.
“We do not see any weapons, just the one guy’s restraining the other guy and there’s a lot of blood,” another caller said.
Riverside police said the victim seemed like he was in shock but did tell them briefly what happened.
“Said when he had him in a headlock trying to subdue him is when the gentleman bit his finger,” Det. Travis Abney with Riverside police said.

The victim told police both men got out of their car and Murray started to fight.
Murray’s cell phone allegedly dropped when he left.
“Didn’t have a lot of leads to go by at first, the victim handed over a cell phone to one of our officers,” Abney said.
That phone led officers back to Murray.
They spoke with prosecutors who decided to ask a grand jury to approve a felonious assault charge against him.
Greene County Prosecutor David Hayes said Murray has been on leave since July 9, 2024, and after consideration was fired from the prosecutor’s office.
Murray has not yet been officially charged.
Riverside police said the victim’s partial middle finger wasn’t able to be re-attached.
