Associate dean named to top spot at UI's Gies College of Business

Jul. 9—CHAMPAIGN — Brooke Elliott has been selected as the next dean of the Gies College of Business at the University of Illinois, pending trustee approval on Thursday.

Elliott will be the first woman to hold the position out of 11 deans in the college's history.

A 20-year UI employee, Elliott is currently the executive associate dean of academic programs at the college and was previously its associate dean overseeing online programs.

She was also the first female head of the accountancy department, where she is still a professor.

"This college has an unbelievably rich history of excellence, and our best years are still in front of us," Elliott said. "I'm excited to see what that future holds for Gies as we find even more meaningful ways to shape purposeful leaders around the world."

Her selection concludes a national search following previous dean Jeff Brown's announcement last fall that he would step down at the end of the Spring 2024 semester.

Elliott's earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from Indiana University, and a doctorate from the University of Washington.

The Gies College of Business credits her for leading a team that designed its undergraduate core curriculum.

She also performs research within the accounting field, primarily involving investing.
