Aurora council approves new police chief
AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — Aurora City Council gave official approval Monday night for the police department’s new chief.
Todd Chamberlain is now set to be sworn in on Sept. 9. The council vote was 8-2.
Chamberlain will become the first permanent Aurora police chief since Vanessa Wilson was fired from the position in April 2022. The department has since had multiple interim chiefs — current interim Police Chief Heather Morris became the third.
Chamberlain began his law enforcement career with the Los Angeles Police Department in 1984 and rose through the ranks before he retired as a commander in 2018.

After that, he served as the chief of police for the Los Angeles Unified School District. The Los Angeles Times reports that Chamberlain resigned from his position as police chief less than a year into the job when the Los Angeles Board of Education approved an immediate 35% cut to its school police force in July 2020.
He went on to work as a public safety consultant and lecturer at California State University Los Angeles.
