Bad Bunny, JLo, Ricky Martin support Harris after Trump rally Puerto Rico comments
Celebrities are hitting back after racist comments made about Puerto Rico at a Trump rally over the weekend.
A comedian performing at Republican presidential nominee and former President Donald Trump's closing campaign rally at New York City's Madison Square Garden Sunday night referred to Puerto Rico as "a floating island of garbage" during his remarks.
"There's a lot going on. I don’t know if you know this but there's literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now," Tony Hinchcliffe, whose stage name is Kill Tony, said at the event. "I think it's called Puerto Rico."

Puerto Rican artists Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez and Ricky Martin condemned the comments and showed support for Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris.
Bad Bunny posted a video of Harris' pledge to boost Puerto Rico's economy, which she shared Sunday in Philadelphia, to his 45 million Instagram followers. In the video message, which includes Spanish captions, Harris called out Trump and told Puerto Rican voters, "There is so much at stake in this election."
Bad Bunny shared part of the clip to his Instagram story Sunday, specifically highlighting one quote from Harris: "I will never forget what Donald Trump did and what he did not do when Puerto Rico needed a caring and a competent leader. He abandoned the island, tried to block aid after back-to-back devastating hurricanes and offered nothing more than paper towel and insults."

JLo, Ricky Martin, Lin-Manuel Miranda point to Trump's response to 2017 hurricanes
Hurricanes Maria and Irma devastated Puerto Rico in 2017, leading to more than 3,000 deaths and a longstanding stalemate between Trump and the island's leadership following talk of aid.
Lopez also shared the Harris video and social media graphics with the Harris campaign's positions on Puerto Rico to her 250 million followers on her Instagram story Sunday, adorning the posts with a clapping emoji and the Puerto Rican flag.
Martin tagged Harris in his Instagram story post Sunday, writing "I remember" in response to her video recalling Trump's response to Puerto Rico. Martin also shared video of Hinchliffe's comments, writing in Spanish to his 18.5 million Instagram followers, "This is what they think of us. Vote for @kamalaharris."
Zoe Saldan?a and Lin-Manuel Miranda both re-shared Martin's story.
Miranda followed up with a post detailing the "disrespect and racism" he felt from the Trump administration, including in their response to Hurricane Maria.
"Yesterday the Trump campaign gave a comedian a national platform to sling racist jokes, including one calling Puerto Rico a 'floating island of garbage.' But I’m old enough to remember the days after Hurricane Maria, when former president Trump TREATED us like garbage. And when criticized for his inaction, called our people lazy," the Pulitzer Prize-winning songwriter's Instagram caption reads.
"There are people for whom this is fine, it’s just a bad joke, lighten up. For many of us, this 'joke' is a reminder of how bad it was under Trump, how he treated our people in our moment of need," he continued. "How you vote is between you and your conscience. I’m too cynical to believe any hearts and minds are changing at this late stage of the race. I just hope that enough of us don’t want to go backwards, to tip back into this existence."
He ended his statement by sharing his presidential endorsement: "I am voting for VP Kamala Harris. If you are eligible to vote, please vote."
Niecy Nash-Betts: 'It will only get worse from here'
"This is not funny," Puerto Rican actress Rosie Perez captioned the clip of Hinchliffe, which she reposted on her Instagram page. "Heartbreaking and very disturbing is what it is."
Actress Gina Rodriguez posted the Harris clip and her policy plans to her story. She captioned the clip: "PUERTO RICANS WHERE YOU AT?!? COME ON @KAMALAHARRIS VOTE FOR YOUR ISLAND. VOTE FOR YOU."
Other celebrities, including Niecy Nash-Betts, responded to the comments as well. Nash-Betts shared an Instagram video splicing more clips of offensive comments from Hinchcliffe's set about Jewish, Palestinian, Black and Latino people.
"If you are a part of any group he mentioned or love anyone from the group he mentioned ... WAKE UP. IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE FROM HERE. #NOTMYAMERICA," she wrote.
Trump campaign: 'This joke does not reflect the views of President Trump'
After the widespread backlash, including from various politicians, senior Trump campaign adviser Danielle Alvarez released a statement Sunday night addressing Hinchcliffe's bit. "This joke does not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign," she said.
Hinchcliffe responded on X saying he loves Puerto Rico and has vacationed there. He added that throughout his set, he "made fun of everyone."
"These people have no sense of humor," he wrote.
Trump, who is seeing increased support among Latino men, touted splashy endorsements from Puerto Rican artists like Anuel AA and Nicky Jam that boast major followings from young Latino voters. Puerto Rican voters living in the United States make up the second-largest Latino group in the country, including in key battleground states like Pennsylvania.
