Beach hazard warning issued in parts of NE Ohio

CLEVELAND (WJW) – The National Weather Service has issued a beach hazard statement that says swimmers should not enter Lake Erie in Lake and Ashtabula counties.

According to the NWS, the beach hazard statement takes effect at 11 a.m. and continues through Monday evening for both Lake and Ashtabula counties.

According to the NWS, there is a high risk of rip currents expected. Swimmers are advised not to enter the water.

“Currents can carry swimmers away from shore through a sand bar and along structures extending out into the lake,” the statement from the NWS says.

The National Weather Service advises that people stay out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions.
