Bicyclist killed in crash at West Meade intersection

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Nashville bicyclist has died following Tuesday evening crash at an intersection in a West Meade neighborhood, officials said.

The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) said the crash took place at approximately 7:15 p.m. at the intersection of Jocelyn Hollow Road and Robin Hill Road on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

Officials said a preliminary investigation indicates that 64-year-old Ronald Laird was traveling north on Robin Hill Road when he went through a stop sign and collided with a Kia Optima that was traveling east on Jocelyn Hollow Road.

Laird — who was wearing a helmet — was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died, officials said.

Witnesses reportedly told officers that the Kia driver appeared to be going the speed limit of 25 miles per hour.

Police said Laird was traveling with three other riders who allegedly said “they all ran the stop sign prior to the collision” and that the 64-year-old was the last cyclist who attempted to cross through the intersection.

No other information about the deadly crash was immediately released.
