Family identifies shooting victim found in Metairie field

METAIRIE, La. (WGNO) — The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating an overnight homicide in Metairie.

According to JPSO deputies, at 4:50 a.m., they were called to the 500 block of N. Elm Street on a report of a shooting.

They found the body of Tory Jackson in a field. He had been shot at least once.

Now, his family is struggling to understand why someone would shoot and kill a beloved father in a neighborhood where they say he was well-liked.

“Why? Why would you take my child’s life? He had two babies to raise, and he didn’t hurt anybody. He really didn’t,” said his mother, Beulah Sarah.

“He was a good person. He’d give you what he had, and I loved my son. That was my baby son,” said Sarah.

Sarah says she knew something was wrong when her daughter came into the house screaming. She added that a mother’s intuition is never wrong.

“She comes through the door saying, ‘Mama, mama.’ I said, ‘Tory dead?’ That’s all I could say because I had felt something earlier that night. I said, ‘Tory dead?’ and she wouldn’t say. I said, ‘Is he?’ and she just shook her head. I came out to try to go see him,” said Sarah.

Jackson leaves behind five children, including twin boys, whom Sarah says he cares for by himself. One of Jackson’s older children says it feels as if a piece of his heart was taken away.

“It’s like I could open up to him and share a lot of thoughts that go on in my life with him. What I plan on doing is keeping a strong spirit, staying prayed up and keeping God first,” said Jackson’s son.

Right now, JPSO officials say no motive or suspect information is available. Jackson’s mother is begging that those responsible for her son’s death come forward.

Anyone with information about the crime can call the JPSO Homicide Section at 504-364-5300.
