As busy as a chain saw store after a hurricane
MARTINEZ, Ga. (WJBF) – A line at a store; a huge sale or new phones can cause that, but that’s not what’s going on here.
“Just getting new saw blades for my saw. I think I’m just wearing me and the blades out,” said Rodney Pennington.
It’s not business as usual at Harry’s Equipment Center, they’ve seen a storm of customers this month, because Harry’s specializes in chainsaw sales and repairs.
“I’m getting a clutch for this old thing,” said Bob Burley.
“You’ve worn it out?”
“Oh yeah,” he said.
“Mainly sharpening and I’m picking up a bigger saw today to cut down a big tree in front,” said Ron Carter
“Need a bigger saw?”
“Need a bigger saw,” he said.
With all the debris cleanup, Harry’s repair shop is humming.
So much so Harry himself is coming out of retirement to lend a hand, he’s never seen this many customers in 55 years of business.
“We have to put a door man out there and just let four or five people in. We had people fighting over chainsaws,” he said.
They are fixing chainsaws as the customers wait and the customers keep coming.
“We’re probably doing forty or fifty a day,” said Jeff McGahee,
“And what would it have been before?“
“Five or six,” he said.
It’s ten times the business thanks to Helene.
The want of a chainsaw is not the most exciting reason to be waiting in line, but folks are happy for the opportunity.
“Have you ever waited in line for chain saw work before?”
“No sir, not until the hurricane a month ago. It’s unbelievable. I hope Harry’s doing well with this,” said Ron.
Well, if they like being this busy, then they’re doing great at Harry’s.
