Carrots recalled due to E. coli. Here's what Arizonans must know, including affected brands
Check the carrots in your fridge. Multiple brands of bagged whole and baby carrots are being recalled due to possible E. coli contamination, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced.
California-based Grimmway Farms initiated the voluntary recall on Saturday as 39 cases have been reported in 18 states, including five in New York, resulting in 15 hospitalizations and one death in California as of Nov. 16, the recall notice states.
Whole carrots that were affected were available to purchase from Aug. 14 to Oct. 23, according to the CDC. They do not have best-if-used-by dates. Baby carrots, however, have best-if-used-by dates that range between Sept. 11 to Nov. 12 of this year.
The carrots on shelves in stores are not affected by the recall, but some consumers could still have the recalled carrots in their fridges. Here's everything you need to know.

E. coli poisoning symptoms
Most Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria reside harmlessly in the intestines of people and animals. But some can cause mild to life-threatening gastrointestinal illnesses if consumed, the CDC says.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, symptoms of E. coli poisoning appear two to eight days after exposure and usually last about a week. These can include:
Dehydration
Bloody diarrhea
Abdominal cramps
Fever
In rare cases, some people, especially older adults and children under 5, may develop a type of kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) which is marked by easy bruising, pallor, and decreased urine output. These people should seek emergency medical care immediately.
The agency recommended seeking immediate medical attention if a person experiences:
Feeling dizzy when standing up
Diarrhea and a fever higher than 102 F
Diarrhea for more than three days that is not improving
Bloody diarrhea
So much vomiting that you cannot keep liquids down
Signs of dehydration, such as:
Not urinating much
Dry mouth and throat
