Caught on camera: Thieves ram car into Denver liquor and vape shop

DENVER (KDVR) — A Denver liquor and vape shop was broken into after a suspect rammed a car into the entrance.

Just before 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Denver Police Department responded to Hampden Plaza Liquors and Buzz Smoke and Vape after a car crashed into a building. But when officers arrived, they found much more than that.

Shop owners who spoke with FOX31 on Wednesday said thousands of dollars worth of merchandise was stolen, with the car used as a way to make entry.

Sam, the cousin of one of those shop owners, was there for support on Wednesday as cleanup was underway.

“He’s just looking to keep the business open. He’s trying to get the door installed and, you know, that’s thousands of dollars,” Sam said.

The entire break-in was caught on surveillance cameras outside and inside the shops.

“Watching the footage and the video, it’s shocking, you know. Not really safe at all. Just affected my cousin since 4 a.m. Financially, emotionally,” Sam said.

The video shows the suspects back into the entrance of the liquor store four separate times. Then they smash the outside surveillance camera before going inside.

First, they go for the safe holding $10,000. Next, they go throughout the store taking thousands of dollars in merchandise. An estimated $15,000 worth of items were taken, although the shops expect that number to rise.

This was far from the first time they were targeted.

“This is like his third shop and this is not the first time this is happening. This is the sixth time, and this is one of the worst times,” Sam said. “They break in today here at the liquor store. Tomorrow you don’t even know where they are going to break in, might be next door, might be the next shop,” Sam said.

Denver police are still actively investigating and no arrests had been made as of Wednesday night. Anyone with information as to who these thieves might be is asked to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867).
