Champaign County Parade and Picnic sheds light on labor unions
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The annual Champaign County Labor Day Parade and Picnic came to downtown Champaign for the third straight year. The parade featured police cars, golf cart floats and heavy machinery from the iron workers union.
This was not just any celebration though. According to lead organizer Dave Beck, it has a deeper purpose.

“The whole idea is honoring working people in this county and their unions that they have formed to make for better working conditions and better lives,” Beck said.
This is the third year that the Parade and Picnic has been in Champaign after moving from Urbana. Attendance has increased every year since a slight dip after the move. Organizers are confident that this will continue.
