City of New Orleans delays reactivation of school zone cameras
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — New Orleans city officials announced a delay in the reactivation of school zone cameras around the city.
Due to new Louisiana state legislation (Senate House Bill 302) the citywide school zone cameras reactivation will be delayed and not begin on tomorrow Thursday, August 1, 2024. The City will keep the public updated on when school zone cameras will reactivate.

The cameras have been deactivated since the start of summer break on May 24.
On May 16, 2023, Mayor LaToya Cantrell signed an ordinance that would expand school zone eligibility from grades K-7 to K-12, allowing for the installation of signage, designated crosswalks, stripping and other traffic control devices at all elementary and secondary schools.
Thursday, Aug. 1, marked the first day of school for several schools in the city. Other schools will have a staggered return with certain grades returning to the classrooms on different days than their schoolmates.

“During this delay, we urge all drivers to put safety first and to be very cautious when driving in school zone areas throughout the city,” said City of New Orleans officials.
