Coalition calls for action in protecting New Orleans trees
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Save Trees with Ordinance Protection Coalition is requesting immediate action to protect trees throughout New Orleans.
According to the STOP Coalition, mature oak trees are being damaged throughout the city due to roadwork.

The coalition says hundreds of trees on St. Roch Avenue in Gentilly are at risk.
“We need to stop saying we are a resilient city, and that everything we do flies in the face of us being resilient. Like we said, trees are our number one resilient asset here, because they do multiple functions. The more we lose, the more we lose resiliency,” said Groundwork New Orleans Executive Director Todd Reynolds.
The coalition is also asking for the adoption of a tree protection ordinance.
