'The countdown begins.' Texas burger franchise to open in Greenville by summer. What to know
Whataburger, a Texas-based burger franchise, broke ground at 1466 Woodruff Road on Tuesday, March 5 and will be the first location to open in South Carolina this summer.
The burger restaurant is expected to open seven additional locations across the Upstate by the summer of 2025, ranging from Spartanburg to Duncan, spanning their franchise into their 16th state.
"The countdown begins for Whataburger's South Carolina debut," said Preston Hughes, growth market leader at Whataburger. "We can't wait to open our doors this summer and celebrate this milestone with Greenville by creating memorable moments over craveable food."
On Monday, March 5, Whataburger hosted a food truck for nearly 50 Greenville guests and Greenville Chamber of Commerce CEO Carlos Phillips to welcome the Texas burger restaurant to the Upstate.

What does Whataburger offer on menu?
Whataburger was founded in 1950 in Corpus Christi, Texas by Harmon Dobson who uses 100% beef on a five-inch toasted bun. There are currently 890 store locations across the country in 16 states.
Their menu consists of 100%, never-frozen beef burgers, chicken sandwiches, salads, shakes and desserts, plus a breakfast menu that lasts from 11 p.m. until 11 a.m.
Whataburger will be open 24 hours, seven days a week.
