Country Star Ty Herndon Marries Boyfriend in Tennessee Wedding
It was a big gay Tennessee farm wedding for country music star Ty Herndon and his husband, Alex Schwartz. They tied the knot among more than 300 guests during an outdoor ceremony Saturday on a farm in Chapmansboro outside Nashville, People reports.
The guest list included Kristin Chenoweth, her fiancé, Josh Bryant, and Sally Struthers.
The wedding’s theme was a purposeful juxtaposition of black and white formality with a casual backdrop, Herndon, 61, told the magazine.
“We knew we wanted something that captured our personalities, and we fell in love with this place as soon as we saw it. We used the wedding scene in the movie of The Proposal as a bit of a reference,” he said.
The Christian group Avalon’s former vocalist Melissa Greene officiated the wedding, directed by Bonnie Hadden, a good friend of Herndon’s who also manages the musician’s fan club. Former Avalon member Michael Passons, former GLAAD vice president Zeke Stokes, and Erik Halbig, Herndon’s producer and guitarist, were groomsmen.
Following six months of dating, the couple got engaged in February, a year after they were introduced at a dinner party by a mutual friend.
The pair insisted on a “southern feast” for their friends and loved ones in attendance. So, Al’s Diner and Deli catered the meal with pork and chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans, macaroni and cheese, and salad. To wash down the meal Southern style, iced tea was poured.
In addition to a three-tiered almond butter creme and blueberry lemon wedding cake, guests were treated to an ice cream and chocolate station at the end of their meal.
“We just wanted a space and a place that could accommodate our eclectic group of friends and family to celebrate love, life, and our future together. That was the main thing that was important to us — and that everyone have a lot of fun,” Herndon explained.
