Crime Stoppers looking for tips in June 27 Champaign shooting

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — It’s been almost two weeks since a shooting in Champaign left a man hurt. Crime Stoppers is now getting involved in the case in hopes of finding a tip that leads to an arrest.

The shooting happened the morning of June 27 at Mattis Avenue and John Street. The investigation indicated that the victim, a 25-year-old man, was standing in the courtyard of his apartment complex when another man approached him, opened fire and left.

The victim was taken to the hospital with potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds to his upper leg. He survived and is recovering from his injuries.

Crime Stoppers provided no suspect information or photos in their weekly bulletin to the media. Officials asked that if anyone has video cameras on their property near Mattis and John, they should review the footage from the time of the shooting — 12:34 a.m. — and look for suspicious people or vehicles.
