When will Daredevil: Born Again be released on Disney+?
The devil of Hell’s Kitchen isn’t done with you just yet...
After running for three seasons on Netflix, Daredevil met an untimely end when his stand-alone series ended in 2018. However, if comics have taught us anything, it’s that you can’t keep a good superhero down — and thankfully, the character is soon to be resurrected in Daredevil: Born Again, a newly retooled series that’s coming to Disney+.
While his first outing shared some DNA with Marvel’s wider world, this new outing promises to fully integrate Daredevil — AKA blind lawyer-turned-horned-hero Matt Murdock — into the official Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
However, the transition hasn’t been smooth. Read on to get clued up on all the key details about Daredevil’s return.
When will Daredevil: Born Again be released?
Daredevil: Born Again will be released on Disney+ in March 2025, although an exact date has yet to be announced. The series will run for nine episodes, despite Marvel having originally planned an 18-episode run.
The show was set to launch in early 2024. However, in late 2023, Marvel boss Kevin Feige pushed the release date back and head writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman left the project.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Feige took time to peruse the footage captured so far when the production paused due to the Hollywood strikes, and it wasn’t long before he decided that something wasn’t quite working.

With recent Marvel series battling tepid reviews, Feige was reportedly so concerned about the quality of Daredevil: Born Again that he decided to put the series into turnaround. The Punisher executive producer Dario Scardapane was tapped to replace Ord and Corman, and production restarted in January 2024
Is there a trailer for Daredevil: Born Again?
A trailer for Daredevil: Born Again was shown behind closed doors at a Disney presentation in May 2024. However, this footage has yet to be publicly released. We’ll update this article once it’s out.
What is the plot of Daredevil: Born Again?
With Daredevil already gathering a solid fanbase thanks to his time on Netflix — and recent MCU appearances in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk — all eyes are on his Disney+ regeneration which is likely why Marvel has been so precious about the show’s quality.
According to the series’ official synopsis, new episodes will see Murdock go-toe-to-toe with his old foe Wilson Fisk AKA the ruthless mob boss Kingpin — only this time as an unlikely ally.
Throughout their new storyline, the duo will “try to put their rivalry and darker alter-egos aside to help the people of New York, only for their pasts to ‘catch up to them’.”
That was the initial angle. However, following Marvel’s recently announced retooling, it’s unclear whether things will stay exactly the same when the show eventually materialises.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, head writers Ord and Corman had crafted a show that perhaps leaned a little too far into Murdock’s day job as a lawyer, with the outlet saying it felt more like a “legal procedural” than the gritty and blood-splattered show fans were used to watching on Netflix.
The same report revealed that Murdock wasn’t even seen in his iconic costume until episode four.
It went on to explain that Marvel plans to use segments of previously shot material and mix it in with new “serialised elements”, with Ord and Corman remaining on board as executive producers.
Despite this rocky start, a second season of Daredevil: Born Again is also in the works, showing that the studio clearly has a lot of faith in the character and his future.
Who is in the Daredevil: Born Again cast?
After making his MCU debut in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Charlie Coxx’s Matt Murdock will continue his journey in Daredevil: Born Again after popping up briefly in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
The latter performance saw Cox don a newly revamped golden costume — but we don't know if that’ll carry forward into his new Disney+ series.
Vincent D’Onofrio will once again be reinhabiting Wilson Fisk AKA Kingpin, with Jon Bernthal’s fan-favourite Frank Castle AKA the Punisher also expected to return for another bout of vigilante justice.
Wilson Bethel has been tapped to reprise his role as Benjamin Poindexter, aka Bullseye, in the new series. The actor portrayed the character in season 3 of the original Netflix show, where he was taken under the wing of Wilson Fisk and stole Daredevil's identity, going on violent killing sprees to change public opinion of the vigilante.
It was also reported by InSneider that Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson would be returning in the roles of Karen Page and Foggy Nelson, Matt Murdock’s friends. Daredevil season 3 ended with the trio agreeing to reunite as “Nelson, Murdock and Page”.
Elsewhere, The Many Saints of Newark’s newcomer, Michael Gandolfini is due to appear in a mystery role, with Sandrine Holt playing Fisk’s wife Vanessa, a role previously played by Ayelet Zurer on Netflix.
Nikki M. James will play Kirsten McDuffie, Margarita Levieva will portray Heather Glenn and Zabryna Guevara will appear as Sheila Rivera, with Genneya Walton, Clark Johnson and Arty Froushan also set to star.
Meanwhile, Punisher fans got a treat in April 2024 when star Jon Bernthal shared a sneak peek at his return to the iconic role.
