Deadpool & Wolverine has debuted with a fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes after its first reviews.

The third Deadpool instalment, which arrives in cinemas on July 26, sees the return of Ryan Reynolds' foul-mouthed anti-hero as he teams up with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine for the first time to defeat a common enemy: Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin).

Succession star Matthew Macfadyen is also introduced to the franchise as a TVA agent, while returning cast members include Morena Baccarin as Vanessa and Stefan Kapi?i? as Colossus, alongside X-Force teammates Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Yukio (Shioli Kutsuna), Shatterstar (Lewis Tan) and Peter (Rob Delaney).

At the time of writing, the film has a strong critics' rating of 80% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes from 141 reviews.

While it's the lowest rating of the franchise so far, coming in behind Deadpool (85%) and Deadpool 2 (84%), this could change as more reviews roll in upon its release.

In Digital Spy's four-star review of the film, we said: "Deadpool & Wolverine is terrific entertainment, two hours of fan service wrapped up as a summer blockbuster. It's not perfect and might not stand up to repeat viewings, but you won't care in the moment."

Here's what some of the other critics have been saying:

New York Times

"It is a film about how anything that was ever successful in Hollywood is made to repeat that same song and dance endlessly...Deadpool & Wolverine devilishly plays on this, of course. It is watchable because it's self-reflective."

Variety

"In the past, such shameless give-folks-what-they-want-ism might have been a bad thing, but here, it serves as a welcome corrective to the superhero overload of the past 15 years. Now that the Disney-backed Marvel Cinematic Universe seems to be running on fumes, the entire genre could use a shake-up, and this jester-like character is just the guy to do it."

London Evening Standard

"Yes please: we'll take as many Wolverine crossovers as Marvel is willing to dish out, as long as they taste as good as this one."

Indie Wire

"Deadpool & Wolverine rescues something kind of beautiful from the ugliness that superhero movies have perpetuated for so long. Not visually, of course, but in several other key respects."

Screen Rant

"Led by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman at the top of their superhero game, Deadpool & Wolverine is an absurd blast of a Marvel multiverse joyride."

Deadpool & Wolverine is scheduled to be released in cinemas on July 26.
