DO Delaware: Femi Kuti concert, Shady Grove, Fleetwood Mac and Joplin tributes this weekend

Afrobeat star graces The Queen

Nigerian Afrobeat artist Femi Kuti juggles lots of titles including activist, saxophonist, bandleader and composer.

He’s the son of legendary Afrobeat musician Fela Anikulapo Kuti and playing in his father’s band in the late 1970s is where he cut his teeth. After his dad was arrested, Femi stood in for his dad as the frontman. These days, the Nigerian music star has 11 studio albums under his belt. The latest is “Stop the Hate” (2021).

Opening the show will be Richard Raw and the Word Warrior Band. There also will be a free pre-party in the Knight’s Bar from 5 to 7 p.m. featuring Todd Brewer from Newark’s International Groove Records. Brewer will spin Afrobeats while you have the chance to check out their pop-up vinyl shop, according to The Queen’s website.

Femi Kuti & The Positive Force, along with Made Kuti, will conjure up love and peace in the Main Hall when they greet guests at The Queen (500 N. Market St., Wilmington) at 8 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $30 (plus fees). Visit thequeenwilmington.com or (302) 400-7020.

Band sinks Tusk into Selbyville

For over a decade, the Fleetwood Mac tribute band Tusk has spread its love of the British-American rock band’s music around the country.

Thriving in the tribute game is harder than solving a Rubik’s Cube, but Tusk members' cheat code has been relying on their synergy, chemistry and institution, qualities that can’t be taught, according to their website.

This concert features general admission “bring your own chair” seating.

Fans will get a Fleetwood Mac attack of their favorite songs like “Seven Wonders” and “Gypsy” when Tusk hits the stage at Freeman Arts Pavilion (31806 Lakeview Drive, Selbyville) at 7 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $25; free for children 12 or younger. Visit freemanarts.org or call (302) 436-3015.

Janis Joplin tribute in Rehoboth

A power-rock mama from the 1960s will be celebrated in The Best of Janis Joplin Tribute at the beach.

The show pays homage to Joplin by highlighting three renowned singers from the Mid-Atlantic region: Patty Reese, Mama Moon and Mary Shaver. The trio is backed by a talented seven-piece band and horns, according to the Rehoboth Bandstand’s website.

You can jam to Joplin hits like “Take Another Piece of My Heart” and “Raise Your Hand” when The Best of Janis Joplin headlines the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand (Rehoboth Avenue, Rehoboth Beach) from 8 to 9:15 p.m. Friday. Admission is free. Visit rehobothbandstand.com or (302) 644-2288.

Shady Grove Music Fest is back

A full day of music awaits you in Arden’s hidden gem of an event: the annual Shady Grave Music Fest.

On tap for the festival will be performances by Firefly alum Eyebawl and Katie Dill, along with other sets by Cosmic Guilt, The Mary Veils, Kelsey Cork & the Swigs and more. But that’s not all. Guests can delight their bellies via food trucks, beer and wine that will be for sale.

For a more intimate experience, bring a chair or blanket to sit on.

Shady Grove Music Fest will get underway at the Arden Gild Hall (2126 The Highway, Wilmington) from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $29. Visit ardenconcerts.com.

Party with Saved by the 90s

If you could capture the party scene and music from three decades ago and put into a time capsule, that describes the popular cover band Saved by the 90s.

The gang has a big name in this arena, and they’re certainly no stranger to Dewey Beach.

You can party like AC Slater with Saved by the 90s at the Bottle & Cork (1807 Highway One, Dewey Beach) from 8-11:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $20. Visit bottleandcork.com or (302) 227-7272.
