Denver catalytic converter thefts down 95% so far this year: DPD data
DENVER (KDVR) – Catalytic converter thefts in Denver are down 95.2% in 2024 compared to previous years, according to data published by the Denver Police Department.
As of Sept. 9, there were 105 total reported catalytic converter thefts in the City and County of Denver in 2024.

For comparison, between 2021 and 2023, there were an average of 2,172 catalytic converter thefts by this time of the year.
This is the average year-to-date for all three years. The year-to-date comparisons were not available for any of the years individually.
The following is the total number of reported catalytic converter thefts for 2021-2023.
2021: 2,676 reported thefts
2022: 2,695 reported thefts
2023: 3,037 reported thefts
While the citywide decrease has been 95.2%, some areas saw an even higher reduction, according to the data.
Some areas see a bigger reduction than others
According to the data, police district 1, which includes neighborhoods like Auraria, Highland and Lincoln Park, saw the biggest percentage decrease, with seven reported catalytic converter thefts so far this year, a 97.4% reduction over the 271.3 average reported by this time of year in the previous three years.
District 7, which includes all of the Denver International Airport including the parking lots and rental facilities, also saw a significant decrease with 24 thefts reported as of Sept. 9 of this year. That’s 94.8% less than the year-to-date average of 460.7 reported from 2021-2023.
According to the data, district 7 had by far the most reported thefts out of any district in 2023, with 1,457 reported for the full year. That was much higher than in previous years, with 74 and 152 reported in the district in 2021 and 2022 respectively.
