Doctor Who's Jodie Whittaker "protective" over divisive season finale
Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker has said she feels "protective" over her divisive finale as the Doctor.
Whittaker's swansong as the Thirteenth Doctor in 2022 proved disappointing for many fans over the fact that the show failed to explore the romance between her character and companion Yasmin Khan (Mandip Gill).
That's despite Yaz declaring her feelings for the Doctor in a previous special, though Whittaker has defended The Doctor and Yaz's last scenes together in a new interview.

"I'm quite protective over it," she told the Radio Times. "It was a really beautiful thing, particularly the scenes in the TARDIS – they were really wonderful to shoot, because that was our last day.
"And so we shot those and then went and sat on top of the TARDIS and then shot in isolation, straight after that, the moment of regeneration.
"And I think those beats, even though, story-wise, they don't run all together, for us, because that's how we shot it, it felt like a beautiful progression within the dynamic and the relationship that they had," she added.
Whittaker also suggested that her return alongside Gill in a newly-announced audio adventure series could explore the romance more.

"I think also it's just, never say never! We've got adventures to do," she added, before quipping: "We could be [kissing] in the background!"
Gill herself also addressed the show's failure to explore the romance in depth, saying: "I'm not entirely sad [that there wasn't a kiss] because Jodie doesn't moisturise her lips!
"I don't think of it as another version. That is the version. That's where we left it. That's how it happened."
The new Big Finish series, called The Thirteenth Doctor Adventures, was announced over the weekend, and will consist of 12 hour-long episodes to be released in 2025.
Doctor Who airs on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Classic episodes of Doctor Who are available on BBC iPlayer in the UK.
