Doctor Who's Millie Gibson cast in new period drama from Poldark team
Doctor Who star Millie Gibson has joined the cast for The Forsyte Saga, a new ITV drama from the team behind Poldark.
The new series is an adaptation of John Galsworthy's trilogy of novels, with the first six parts following the lives of the wealthy Forsyte family in 1880s London, depicting a tale of "love, loyalty, ambition and betrayal".
Millie, who will soon be seen on screen opposite Ncuti Gatwa as Ruby Sunday, will play Irene in the drama, with her character the object of Soames' (Joshua Orpin) affection, with his personality described as "shrewd and sometimes ruthless".

In addition to Millie and Joshua, the cast also includes Francesca Annis, Jack Davenport and Tom Durant Pritchard, with the trio playing matriarch Ann, James and Monty respectively; additional cast members include Tuppence Middleton, Stephen Moyer and Eleanor Tomlinson (Poldark, One Day).
The adaptation will be headed by Debbie Horsfield, who oversaw all five series of Poldark, with Meenu Gaur and Annetta Laufer both handling directing duties across the six parts. Filming will reportedly begin next month, with shooting taking place in England, Wales and Italy.
"It was an honour to be asked to write a bold new reimagining of Galsworthy's epic saga," said Horsfield in a statement. "Our show is in part a prequel to the events of the first book, but also an opportunity to expand the world and place the women of the family at the centre stage.
