According to the New York Post, Trump's brush with death changed his mind about the speech he'll give Thursday to accept his party’s nomination.

“I had all prepared an extremely tough speech, really good, all about the corrupt, horrible administration,” Trump told the Post. “But I threw it away.”

A new speech was in the works because he wants to try to unite the country, though he doesn't know if that's possible, the Post report said.

Donald Trump picks J.D. Vance as vice-presidential running mate

Trump took to Truth Social on Monday — opening day of the RNC — to announce he had selected U.S. Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio to be his 2024 vice-presidential running mate.

When Vance entered Fiserv Forum Monday, he was greeted by cheers and chants of “J.D.” as well as “USA!”

Ohio U.S. Senate candidate Bernie Moreno made the motion to nominate Vance by acclimation, USA TODAY reported. The motion was adopted to cheers and chants of “JD! JD!” that rang out through the convention hall.

Trump and Vance are expected to formally accept their party's nominations during the convention.
