Donald Trump’s Stunning U.S. Election Triumph Elicits Congratulations And Other Reactions From World Leaders
Donald Trump has hailed a new “golden age of America” after all but sealing a stunning victory over Kamala Harris in the U.S. presidential election — and now world leaders are reacting to his triumph.
French President Emmanuel Macron, who was known for taking a pragmatic approach to Trump in 2016, wrote that he was ready to work together with the incoming U.S. president.

“I look forward to working with you in the years ahead,” added UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. “As the closest of allies, we stand shoulder to shoulder in defence of our shared values of freedom, democracy and enterprise.”
Starmer’s Labour government team has been critical of Trump in the past, with Foreign Secretary David Lammy calling him a “woman-hating, neo-Nazi-sympathising sociopath.” Starmer has sought to build bridges with Trump in recent weeks, meeting him during a trip to New York in September.
Lammy’s tone was markedly different in a tweet on Wednesday morning. “The UK has no greater friend than the US, with the special relationship being cherished on both sides of the Atlantic for more than 80 years. We look forward to working with you,” he said.
Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, said it was “history’s greatest comeback.” He added: “Your historic return to the White House offers a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America.”
Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who may find it more challenging to extract military aid from a Trump regime, said: “I appreciate President Trump’s commitment to the “peace through strength” approach in global affairs. This is exactly the principle that can practically bring just peace in Ukraine closer. I am hopeful that we will put it into action together.”
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said Italy and the U.S. were like “sister” nations and Trump taking office would strengthen their “unshakable alliance, common values, and a historic friendship.”
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, an avowed supporter of Trump, was one of the first to respond as election results became clear in the race to the White House.
“Good morning, Hungary! On the road to a beautiful victory,” he wrote in a Facebook caption of an image of himself watching CNN’s live coverage of the vote.
Orbán, Europe’s longest-serving leader and Vladimir Putin’s closest ally in the European Union, has previously vowed to open “several bottles of champagne” to toast Trump.
Elsewhere in Europe, Ireland’s Taoiseac (Prime Minister), Simon Harris, congratulated Trump on his win, saying “the people of the United States have spoken.” Left-leaning Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, who has been dealing with devastating flooding across his country over recent weeks, sent congratulations and added: “We will work on our strategic bilateral relations and on a strong transatlantic partnership.”
Nigel Farage, a British lawmaker who has become a close surrogate of Trump over the years, described his victory as “the most incredible political comeback of our lifetime.”
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said: “I know President Trump and I will work together to create more opportunity, prosperity, and security for both of our nations.”
Narendra Modi, the leader of India, posted a picture of him embracing Trump. “Heartiest congratulations my friend,” he said.
