East Cleveland police chief resigns in wake of anti-Semitic allegations: I-Team

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio (WJW) – The FOX 8 I-Team has learned East Cleveland Police Chief Brian Gerhard has resigned.

He had been on leave for months due to an uproar over anti-Semitic comments. Gerhard had been accused of making anti-Semitic comments in text messages and having Nazi paraphernalia.

However, we found no mention of anything about that in the separation agreement between the chief and the City of East Cleveland.

It says Gerhard resigned effective last month, and he will be paid into December by using vacation time.

His separation agreement says “The parties… wish to amicably end their working relationship.” It also says Gerhard and East Cleveland leaders agree to not “disparage” or speak poorly of each other.

Gerhard joined East Cleveland police in 1998 and worked his way up to chief.
