Emily Ratajkowski Confirms She's a "Recently Single Person" in New Video
Weeks after she split from husband of four years Sebastian Bear-McClard, Emily Ratajkowski is embracing single life with a full sense of independence.
In a new TikTok video, the model and My Body author posted a stitch with writer Ciarra Jones, responding to Jones's clip about sexism in relationships. In her video, Jones said, "Patriarchy does not give space for the existence of love," and to that, Ratajkowski had a strong reaction.
"Okay, I love this video, even if I’m a little sick of the word patriarchy," she said. "I love this video because she’s making a point that (feminist author) Bell Hooks made, which is that under a patriarchy, there’s this premise of like men getting women, like getting them, pulling them, like they’re something to possess—which I feel, as a recently single person who’s thinking about dating and stuff, I’ve really seen that with my friends, and with the conversations kind of around it."
This is the first time Ratajkowski has openly confirmed her breakup from Bear-McClard, following reports that the actor and producer—with whom she shares 1-year-old son Sylvester Apollo—was repeatedly unfaithful to her.
"It's like, ‘Oh, who’s gonna get her?’ rather than you know, this is a reciprocal, mutual relationship, where two people could potentially foster love," she continued in the clip. "So yeah, basically that’s why we don’t have a lot of love in cis, hetero relationships."
Ratajkowski and Bear-McClard married in 2018 in a low-key ceremony at a courthouse attended only by a handful of their closest friends. Three years later, in March of 2021, the pair welcomed their son, and this July, they split.
