End of an icon? Last Big Boy in Wisconsin to close its doors, for now

SUSSEX, Wis. (WFRV) – The last remaining Big Boy restaurant in Wisconsin is set to close, marking the end of an icon.

The owners of Big Boy in Sussex said that they’re sad to announce they’ll be closing down the restaurant on Sunday, July 14.

Over 100 new food and drink options available, including never-before-tasted flavors of cream puffs at the Wisconsin State Fair

According to a release, after softly opening The GOAT Bar & Grill, the owners quickly realized that the current kitchen space that Big Boy occupies is needed to handle the volume of the restaurant successfully.

“While we are sorry to see Big Boy go, we will now be able to rewrite The GOAT’s menu and add a few burger options, which have been requested by our patrons,” stated the release. “We realize this will upset some people, however, our ultimate goal is to make The GOAT top-notch for the people of Sussex and beyond.”

While there will be no remaining Big Boy restaurants in service for some time in Wisconsin, the press release goes on to say that Big Boy will reopen in Wisconsin Dells sometime in the fall.

The owners say they will sell their franchise tag to the owners of the Wisconsin Dells location so that Wisconsin Big Boy can live on, but as of Sunday, zero will be in operation until then. There is no official date for the Big Boy in the Wisconsin Dells to open.

“The initial plan for the Big Boy space in Sussex is to convert it into a mini arcade for kids,” added the owners. “In the future, once The GOAT is running like a well-oiled machine, we plan to convert the Big Boy space into the “Book Club,” a private event area geared toward bridal/baby showers, book clubs, and other small gatherings.”

Any Big Boy Sussex gift cards that are not used by Sunday can be redeemed at The GOAT.

“We truly appreciate your support of Big Boy and The GOAT thus far and value your input as we continue to navigate this thing called life,” concluded the owners.
