'An extremely hard season': Mount Brighton wraps winter activities
GENOA TWP. — Mount Brighton has officially wrapped the winter season.
Challenging weather has brought the resort's ski and snowboarding season to an end earlier than usual.
"I think it was a extremely hard season," general manager Mike Giorgio told The Daily. "We were constantly playing catch-up and rebuilding the hill. We were piecing things together week after week."
While the resort's 67 snow machines can cover the trails within a couple days, weather conditions have to be ideal, and the region got hit by above-average temperatures and rain last weekend.
"We have to look for extended periods of time, usually six hours or more of snowmaking temperatures," he said. Effective snowmaking requires a "bulb temperature" of about 27 degrees or less with 80% humidity or less.
Giorgio said Mount Brighton had to pause operations Monday, March 4, and concluded Tuesday it was time to end the season.
But the resort is far from done in 2024, with plans for events at 4141 Bauer Road in Genoa Township throughout the year.
Famous Michigan-born singer-songwriter Marshall Crenshaw will perform there later this month, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21. The city's new Yellowstone Country Music Festival will return for a second summer on June 22. And nonprofit fundraisers, like the "Warriors for Hope 5K/10K Obstacle Run" will make an appearance.

Giorgio also plans to return before township officials in 2024 with hopes to "sprinkle more community events" around, like a beer brewer festival or mountain biking activities.
"We want to be very specific ... so the community and neighbors around us have an understanding," he said.
