Fatal crash during local rain storm involved 3-wheel vehicle: OSP

ASHTABULA COUNTY, Ohio (WJW) – A 43-year-old man from Canfield was killed after the three-wheel vehicle he was driving went off the side of a roadway during a weekend rain storm, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers announced in a Sunday morning press release, that Peter Raptis, 43, of Canfield was driving a 2020 Polaris Slingshot along State Route 45 in Morgan Township when the vehicle went off the right side of the roadway and hit a tree.

The crash happened shortly after 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7.

Officials said, Raptis as well as a passenger in the autocycle, identified as Kelly McCormick, 47, of Campbell, were thrown from the vehicle. Both were transported to a nearby hospital where Raptis was later pronounced dead, according to the release.

There has been no word on the condition of the passenger.

The crash remains under investigation.
