Female pursuit suspect in Southern California tackled by police
A woman suspected of stealing a vehicle is in custody after leading police in a chase near the South Los Angeles neighborhood of Hyde Park Monday.
It’s unclear exactly why officers with the Los Angeles Police Department initiated the pursuit, but Sky5 caught up to the chase moments after it came to a brief stop in the driveway of a neighborhood home.
The suspect, behind the wheel of a silver Kia, pulled into the driveway and was quickly surrounded by officers with their guns drawn.
In footage of the incident, she was seen briefly opening the door and looking at police before retreating inside the vehicle.
Just moments later, she backed up, turned the car onto the lawn and drove down the sidewalk, avoiding patrol cruisers that had blocked the street off and turned onto West Boulevard as officers launched back into the pursuit.
Not far from that scene, near West Boulevard and West Slauson Avenue, the woman pulled the vehicle over yet again and attempted to flee on foot.

Aerial footage of the foot chase shows officers running after the suspect as she threw her arms into the air and was eventually tackled by police, who quickly surrounded her.
Authorities cuffed the woman and placed her into the back of a patrol vehicle while officers also secured the Kia to make sure there were no other occupants.
