Few storms this evening. Near Excessive Heat Warning criteria into late week.

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Few storms this evening. More of the same over the next few days with high pressure nearly overhead, which will crank up the heat & keep rain chances more spotty.

Near Excessive Heat Warning criteria into late week. Daily Heat Index Values 105-112+.

By late week-weekend, a nearby frontal boundary looks to kick rain chances higher by Saturday-Monday. This bump in rain chances will alleviate the heat a tad.

In the tropics…

Odds of development now stand at 60% from the National Hurricane Center. Next name is #Debby. Along the northern Gulf Coast, nothing at this time to fret with this system.

Tropical wave in the central Atlantic continues to struggle against dry air. This disturbance will have a bit more favorable conditions ahead as it nears the Bahamas by late week/weekend.

Especially if it garners any strength…a stronger system would likely be steered away from the Gulf of Mexico altogether. A weaker, tropical wave could slip into the Eastern Gulf & bring lots of rain to the Florida Peninsula this weekend/early next week.

We will continue to monitor this, but the good news is that reliable model guidance isn’t enthused with development potential. Stay tuned.
