FQMD leaders said the $200,000 project aims to make North Rampart Street safer for pedestrians and cyclists.

The project includes newly painted bike lanes from Toulouse to St. Philip streets, 60 new flex posts along bike lanes to help separate cars from cyclists and pedestrians, five intersection corner zones painted to increase visibility and two pedestrian-activated beacon lights at the St. Philip Street and St. Ann Street intersections.

“This is a vast improvement over what we had out here. So, the city had done some interim measures to improve bicycle and pedestrian safety on North Rampart. The French Quarter Management District built upon that. We are hoping to keep growing these safety improvements over the years in cooperation with the city,” said French Quarter Management District Executive Director Karley Frankic.

FQMD leaders also said the group hopes to improve safety conditions on Iberville Street and Esplanade Avenue.
