Future Black History Makers: Meet Jeremih Anthony, a fifth-grader at Gallberry Farm

Jeremih Anthony, 10, the son of Briana Richardson, is in fifth grade at Gallberry Farm Elementary School.

He was nominated as a Fayetteville Observer Future Black History Maker because "Jeremih has worked hard to overcome his struggle with reading and comprehension," writes his nominator, Patricia Richardson. "He is now reading on grade level and was recently chosen as a safety patrol officer at school. Jeremih volunteers his time on weekends assisting his grandparents feeding the homeless and providing them with hats, gloves, blankets and toiletries. Jeremih is also a beast in soccer. Last year, he played soccer for Cumberland County Parks and Recreation Centers (and) scored 41 goals for the season which was the most for his age group. His coach and teammates called him 'Messi' after the famous soccer player Lionel Messi. Jeremih is very respectful and is loved and admired by all who know him."

What's your favorite subject in school? Math and science.

What do you want to be when you grow up? Professional soccer player.

Do you have any hobbies? What do you like to do for fun? Soccer, basketball, playing my Xbox, and going outside to play with friends.

What are you really good at doing? I’m really good at playing soccer and singing.

What's your favorite thing about yourself? I’m smart, funny and I make friends easily.

Who is your role model? My papa is my role model.

If you could meet any famous person, who would it be and why? Lionel Messi because he’s my favorite soccer player. I want to be as skilled in soccer as he is when I get older.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? Argentina, because Messi is from there.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and how would you use it? If I could choose a superpower I’d choose telekinesis. That way I could hand my mom the remote with my mind.

What's your favorite movie or TV show? My favorite TV show is "Gravity Falls" and my favorite movie is "Blakc Panther: Wakanda Forever."

If you could eat one thing every day, what would it be? Spaghetti.

What makes your child a Future Black History Maker? Jeremih is very athletic. He excels in every sports activity he plays (basketball, baseball and soccer), but he is extremely gifted with a soccer ball. Jeremih is equally smart, and he has a heart of gold. He jumps at any opportunity to help. I believe that his athletic gifts will take him places and give him the opportunity to make a difference in the world.

Why are you proud of your child? I am proud of Jeremih because he has overcome many obstacles in his short life, but he has never allowed them to stop him. Jeremih is an honor roll student, hallway safety patrol at his school and an athlete. Jeremih gives his very best in all that he does.
