Will garbage be collected in my parish during Tropical Storm Francine?
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Tropical Storm Francine is expected to land Wednesday, Sept. 11 as a Category 2 hurricane and parish officials across the state are canceling garbage collection services ahead of landfall.
Francine is expected to bring with it powerful winds and the potential for a dangerous storm surge.
Francine’s forecast track shifts east as Louisiana braces for hurricane landfall Wednesday
The WGNO weather team reports the storm is expected to move northeast at a faster pace over the next 24 to 36 hours bringing the storm’s center near the Louisiana coast by Wednesday afternoon.
Louisiana residents have been advised to secure all loose trash cans and debris as they can become hazardous if picked up by the wind.
St. Bernard Parish
Garbage Collection will be suspended on Wednesday, Sept. 11 due to the closure of the landfill and transfer station closure. Regular pickup will resume on Thursday, Sept. 12.
St. Charles Parish
River Birch Renewable Energy will suspend all curbside collection on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
Orleans Parish
IV Waste officials announced trash and recycling services will be suspended Wenesday, Sept. 11 due to Tropical Storm Francine.
Jefferson Parish
Garbage collection is canceled for Wednesday, Sept. 11. All parish trash drop-off sites and the landfill will be closed. Residents are to remove their trashcans directly after collection Tuesday, Sept. 10.
Kenner
Curbside garbage collection will happen as scheduled. Residents are advised to remove trash cans from the curbs as soon as possible.
St. John the Baptist Parish
Waste Pro will continue with garbage collection on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024, as weather permits. Collection on Thursday, Sept. 12 will be based on weather conditions.
Lafourche Parish
Parish officials state that due to the projected path of Tropical Storm Francine, River Birch will suspend garbage pickup on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
