Get Her Look: Madonna’s Prince Tribute at the Billboard Music Awards

Madonna didn’t walk the pink carpet at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night, nor did she post any pics of herself getting ready on Instagram. She saved the maximum impact of her look for when she took the stage to perform a tribute to Prince. In a custom Gucci purple paisley suit inspired by a jacket the Purple One gave her in the ’80s, Madonna embodied the spirit of her late friend and fellow icon, from her toes up to her hairstyle by Andy LeCompte.
To create Madonna’s waves for the show, Wella celebrity ambassador stylist LeCompte began by brushing out her freshly cut hair while it was dry and natural. Next, he worked two pumps of Wella Professionals LuxeOil Reconstructive Elixir through the ends of her hair with his hands. For her loose waves, LeCompte wrapped locks around the base of a 1-inch curling iron. He applied a “plentiful amount” of Wella Professionals EIMI Dry Me for a matte look, and then he teased her hair with a wide-tooth comb and his fingers. Finally, he sprayed Wella Professionals EIMI Stay Essential on her hair to hold it together.
Now, whether everyone could hold it together while watching Madge and Stevie Wonder sing “Purple Rain” is another matter entirely.
