Here's how Nueces County restaurants scored in health inspections for June 2024
In June, Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District inspectors rodent droppings, dirty toilets, food stored under sinks and other health violations.
Out of more than 145 businesses inspected, 11 scored below a 90 and 43 received perfect scores. In June, three restaurants (Bubba's 33, El Jalisco Grill and Taqueria Jalisco #3) scored the worst with an 86.
The health district describes a food establishment as a place that sells or serves food to the public, which can include bars, hotels, apartments, schools and food trucks. These establishments must get an annual permit and be inspected by the health district.
Inspections are based on a demerit system, in accordance with the Texas Department of State Health Services. The inspection report checks for 47 different violations, each scoring from 3 to 1.
Here are the worst and best scores restaurants were given during June 2024.
Bubba's 33
1921 S. Padre Island Drive
The restaurant was inspected June 3 and received an 86. Inspectors found toxic chemicals stored improperly, employees not wearing beard guards, stacking wet dishes and dirty sugar containers.
Bubba's 33 was last inspected in February 2024 and scored a 94.
Burger King
309 IH 37
The restaurant was inspected June 6 and received an 88. Inspectors found ice not at proper temperature, dirty soda nozzles, gnats and dirty toilets.
Burger King was last inspected in April 2024 and scored a 91.
Burger King
6610 Saratoga Blvd.
The restaurant was inspected June 11 and received an 87. Inspectors found dirty ice machine, no certified food manager present, employees without food handlers and a dirty oven.
Burger King was last inspected in December 2023 and scored a 92.
Dat Good Good
917 S. Staples St.
The restaurant was inspected June 4 and received an 87. Dat Good Good was inspected again on Tuesday, June 25 and received a 100. Inspectors found food not being held at the proper temperature, employees not wearing hairnets, a dirty microwave and food not labeled.
This is the first inspection for Dat Good Good.
El Jalisco Grill
1813 Ennis Joslin Road
The restaurant was inspected June 3 and received an 86. Inspectors found toxic chemicals stored improperly, food not dated, thawing meat improperly and employees not wearing hairnets.
El Jalisco Grill was last inspected in December 2023 and scored a 91.
El Nuevo San Blas
3122 Baldwin Blvd.
The restaurant was inspected June 14 and received an 88. Inspectors found full chip baskets stacked on top of each other, toxic chemicals stored near dishes, rodent droppings and roaches present.
El Nuevo San Blas was last inspected in June 2023 and scored a 92.
Ojos Locos Sports Cantina
5133 S. Padre Island Drive
The restaurant was inspected June 24 and received an 88. Inspectors found dirty drink nozzles, a dirty ice machine, gnats and missing tiles.
Ojos Locos was last inspected in April 2024 and scored an 89.
Taiwan Restaurant
5425 S. Padre Island Drive
The restaurant was inspected June 24 and received an 89. Inspectors found food stored directly on the floor, a dirty ice machine, food stacked on top of ready-to-eat food and food not dated.
Taiwan Restaurant was last inspected in January 2024 and scored an 86.
Takeniwa
5216 S. Padre Island Drive
The restaurant was inspected June 13 and received an 89. Inspectors found food on floor, flies, dirty kitchen equipment and cooks not wearing hairnets.
Takeniwa was last inspected in July 2023 and scored a 76.
Taqueria Jalisco #3
10533 S. Padre Island Drive
The restaurant was inspected June 3 and received an 86. Inspectors found food not being covered, a dirty ice machine, gnats and mold in vents.
Taqueria Jalisco was last inspected in January 2023 and scored an 86.
Thai Sticky Rice
14902 Trinity River Drive
The restaurant was inspected June 24 and received an 88. Inspectors found food stored under sinks, a dirty ice machine, evidence of pest contamination and mold on cooler doors.
Thai Sticky Rice was last inspected in January 2024 and scored a 92.
