In the show's latest episode 'Smallfolk', the late king – who was killed off at the end of season one – reappears in visions by his brother Daemon (Matt Smith).

"It was brief, but I can’t tell you how happy I was to go back to @houseofthedragonhbo to see my old friends," the actor captioned a series of behind-the-scenes photos.

"I’ve really missed everyone. It was a chance to put the costume on one last time and say goodbye."

Considine went on to admit that he has "honestly felt a little bereft not being a part of this show anymore" as it gave him a "sense of purpose and responsibility" he hasn’t "felt since".

"To my cast mates, I miss you all It’s amazing to watch your roles grow and to see you fly," the star continued. "Some literally. Hannah Ecclestone and Christian Goddard, my make up and costume, you are the best.

"Huge love to Ryan Condal (thanks for the knife…) I couldn’t fit that statue in my garden, but the art department surprised me with my own sculpt. I will treasure it. Along with the great memories."

In other news, House of the Dragon recently aired the death of Viserys's cousin Rhaenys in an epic battle, with actor Eve Best explaining that "there was something very beautiful about" her character's passing.

"It was a moment of total surrender and letting go of everything she'd been carrying for two seasons: never, ever letting anybody see any of her pain, any of her anguish, any of her fear, any of her vulnerability, and just being this rock of wisdom and grace and stoicism and goodness and badassery at the same time," she told Entertainment Weekly.

"I think for her to finally let go was the most wonderful relief."

House of the Dragon season 2 airs on Mondays on Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK. In the US, new episodes air on Sundays on HBO and stream on Max.
