IL State Fair adds The Smashing Pumpkins to 2024 grandstand lineup
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The Illinois State Fair has added another band to its grandstand lineup for the 2024 edition of the State Fair.
Officials announced on Monday that The Smashing Pumpkins will headline the grandstand on Friday, Aug. 16. Formed in 1988 Chicago, the group has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide and won two Grammy’s, two MTV VMAs and an American Music Award.
Their albums include “Gish” (1991), quadruple-platinum “Siamese Dream” (1993), diamond-certified “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” (1995), platinum “Adore” (1998) and gold “Machina/The Machines of God” (2000). More recently, the band released three albums in the last six years, the most recent being “ATUM” last year.

“The Smashing Pumpkins defined a new sound in the 90s and have continued to evolve through the years,” said Illinois State Fair Manager Rebecca Clark. “This show is sure to draw an eclectic and enthusiastic crowd, and we are excited to bring The Smashing Pumpkins back home to Illinois.”
Opening for The Smashing Pumpkins will be PVRIS.
The Smashing Pumpkins is the seventh performing individual or group to be announced as part of the Illinois State Fair Grandstand’s 2024 lineup. So far, the lineup is listed as follows:
Aug. 9 – Keith Urban (with Mackenzie Porter)
Aug. 10 – Motley Crue
Aug. 11 – Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit (with Ashley McBryde)
Aug. 13 – Jordan Davis (with Ashley Cooke)
Aug. 15 – The Jonas Brothers
Aug. 16 – The Smashing Pumpkins (with PVRIS)
Aug. 17 – Miranda Lambert (with Gavin Adcock)
Tickets for The Smashing Pumpkins’ concert will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. via Ticketmaster.
