When is Inauguration Day? What to know ahead of President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration
Inauguration Day is less than three weeks away as President-elect Donald Trump readies his administration for his second term in office. This time around, Inauguration Day also lands on a federal holiday: Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Trump has already named most of his Cabinet nominees and several other White House positions.
But those appointments have not come without controversy. Trump had to replace Matt Gaetz with a new pick for attorney general after Gaetz dropped out over ongoing controversy about previous investigations into sexual misconduct. Gaetz has denied wrongdoing.
Trump has also touted some day-one plans, including hitting Mexico, Canada and China with import tariffs, prompting a warning from Mexico ? the U.S.'s biggest trade partner ? that doing so could hurt both economies.
With Inauguration Day right around the corner, here is what to know.
When is Inauguration Day?
Trump's inauguration is scheduled for Jan. 20, 2025, in Washington, D.C.
Latest news from Trump’s transition
In the leadup to his inauguration, Trump has been in the headlines for a wide range of reasons. On Monday, a New York federal appeals court upheld a jury's verdict that President-elect Donald Trump sexually abused and defamed columnist E. Jean Carroll and owes her $5 million for doing so.
On the same day, Trump endorsed Speaker of the House Mike Johnson as the Republican congressman looks to continue as the party leader in the House of Representatives. Trump’s endorsement comes after a government shutdown fight divided some Republicans earlier this month.
Trump has named nearly all of his Cabinet-level nominations in the short few weeks since he won the election. Many are known loyalists to Trump and served in his previous administration.
The plans Trump announced include a 25% tariff on goods from Mexico and Canada and an additional 10% tariff on goods from China. He also promised to move immediately to deport immigrants living in the country without legal permission, as he has touted on the campaign trail.
