Inmate spits at corrections officer, prison officials say

SOMERSET – An inmate at SCI-Laurel Highlands will appear in Somerset County court, accused of assaulting a corrections officer during a security inspection, authorities said.

Angel Luis Ledee-Torres, 23, waived his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday before District Judge Scott Walker, of Somerset.

Ledee-Torres was charged with aggravated harassment by a prisoner, simple assault and harassment. Charges were filed by a criminal investigator for the state Department of Corrections.

According to a complaint affidavit, four corrections officers were conducting a security inspection of Housing Unit F July 3 when Ledee-Torres allegedly spit in the face of one of the officers.

Ledee-Torres was being returned to his cell when he allegedly spit in the face of the officer a second time.

The corrections officer was treated by medical staff and was decontaminated.

Ledee-Torres is serving a four- to eight-year sentence at SCI-Laurel Highlands for a burglary in Dauphin County, according to the superintendent’s assistant.
