Jefferson, Orleans parishes call for water conservation
JEFFERSON PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Officials with Jefferson and Orleans parishes have called for water conservation at homes and businesses as a result of Hurricane Francine.
According to a post by the Jefferson Parish Facebook page, the conservation notice is due to recent rain events and Hurricane Francine infiltrating the sewer lines.

Residents are asked to limit non-essential activities like washing dishes and doing laundry in order to minimize overloading of the Parish sewerage system.
Jefferson Parish has over 500 lift stations and more than 1,800 pumps in its system to keep the system down, and while crews are reportedly working to find and address sewer backups, they will be off the streets once winds reach 35 mph.
Later on Wednesday, the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans reported that several sewerage pump stations have been impacted by power outages and other issues.
As a result, the those in New Orleans are asked to conserve water while work is done to bring the system back to full capacity.
