Jefferson Parish in need of poll workers ahead of Election Day
JEFFERSON PARISH, La. (WGNO) — At less than 10 weeks from the presidential election, Jefferson Parish poll workers are needed more than ever. There are 270 precincts with 133 voting locations and 1,350 poll worker vacancies.
Jefferson Parish Clerk of Court Jon Gegenheimer says the election process has to be transparent, and to achieve that, the process should be run by citizens. Although it’s a 15-hour day, he believes being a helping hand during the election will leave you with so much pride.

For decades, the parish had regular poll workers who would do every single election, but the truth is, they began to age.
Gegenheimer hopes more younger people will come out and become poll workers.
“Each of our employees is licensed as a poll commissioner, so they would step in. We have 206 people right there that we can plug in on election day if we need them. We will need a lot of them, if not all of them. People who have served as poll commissioners got older. Some died off, and it is hard to get younger people interested in becoming poll commissioners,” said Gegenheimer.

Due to the lack of poll workers statewide, you don’t have to live in Jefferson Parish to be a poll worker for this upcoming election.
You can receive up to $250 for working Election Day.
If you, or anyone you know is interested in becoming an election commissioner, please contact the Jefferson Parish Clerk of Court’s Office at 504-736-6394 or email [email protected].
