Ortega picks up the script for the first episode – confirmed to be titled ‘Here We Woe Again’ – and says, "Hello, Thing. More torture awaits."

Joining the show as series regulars are Billie Piper and Steve Buscemi, as well as Evie Templeton, Owen Painter and Noah Taylor.

They will star alongside returning actors Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez and Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, who have all been upgraded to series regulars for the second season.

Also confirmed to be making guest appearances in upcoming episodes are Thandiwe Newton, Joanna Lumley, Heather Matarazzo and Haley Joel Osment – as well as Christopher Lloyd, who played Fester Addams in the original Addams Family movies.

In a statement, Wednesday creators Al Gough and Miles Millar said: "We are thrilled that the entire Addams family will be enrolling in Nevermore Academy this season along with a dream cast of icons and new faces."

Meanwhile, as Ortega returns to Wednesday, it appears that she won’t be returning to the Jurassic World animated series she appeared in, which also airs on Netflix.

The actor voiced Brooklynn in Camp Cretaceous, but she is not listed in the cast for the follow-up series Camp Theory, and the new trailer seems to show that her character has been killed off.

Wednesday season 1 is streaming now on Netflix, with season 2 now in production.
