Kamala Harris Reveals Political Plans Created Specifically For Black Men
Vice President Kamala Harris has laid out plans to specifically support Black men if elected President of the United States. Titled the Opportunity Agenda for Black Men, the 9-page document details how the Democratic nominee will provide tools for Black men to build wealth, support their families, and lead their communities.
The plan derived from Harris’ experience as she and her running mate, Tim Walz, campaigned across the country, listening to stories from businessmen in cities including Atlanta and Detroit about their struggles.
“Black men and boys deserve a president who will provide the opportunity to unleash this talent and potential by removing historic barriers to wealth creation, education, employment, earnings, health, and improving the criminal justice system,” details the document. “Black men deserve a president who will deliver on promises and equip them with the tools and resources to make their aspirations a reality.”
The Opportunity Agenda for Black Men includes the following bullet points:
Providing 1 million loans that are fully forgivable to Black entrepreneurs and others to start a business.
Championing education, training, and mentorship programs that help Black men get good-paying jobs in high-demand industries and lead their communities, including pathways to become teachers.
Supporting a regulatory framework for cryptocurrency and other digital assets so Black men who invest in and own these assets are protected.
Launching a National Health Equity Initiative focused on Black Men that addresses sickle cell disease, diabetes, mental health, prostate cancer, and other health challenges that disproportionately impact them.
Legalizing recreational marijuana and creating opportunities for Black Americans to succeed in this new industry.
According to CNN, the ambitious agenda will be presented by Harris at various upcoming appearances, including “Black Men Huddle Up” events, an Economic Freedom Talk series, and paid media outreach. This includes a stop at The Breakfast Club with Charlamagne Tha God.
“Donald Trump’s outreach is gold sneakers, T-shirts of mug shots and insults, and putting other communities down. The Vice President is actually speaking to what Black men can achieve under her presidency. We think that’s a stark point of contrast and one that is important to talk about,” Harris-Walz campaign communications Director Michael Tyler said in a statement to the news outlet.
Harris’ agenda reveal comes as former President Barack Obama called out “brothers” for what he viewed as a lack of support for the VP’s presidential campaign.
“You’re coming up with all kinds of reasons and excuses. I’ve got a problem with that,” he exclaimed. “Part of it makes me think that, well, you just aren’t feeling the idea of having a woman as president, and you’re coming up with other alternatives and reasons for that,” adding “When we get in trouble and the system isn’t working for us, they’re the ones out there marching and protesting.”
According to data reported by the Associated Press, about 7 in 10 Black voters have a somewhat or very favorable view of Harris, with few differences between male and female voters.
