Kamala Harris, Tim Walz Set Joint Interview With CNN

Vice President Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz will sit for an interview with CNN this week — marking Harris’ first major interview since becoming the Democratic presidential nominee.

The interview will air as a primetime special on Thursday, Aug. 29, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CNN and across the news network’s platforms. Harris and Walz, in their first joint interview, will be interviewed by CNN anchor and chief political correspondent Dana Bash from the battleground state of Georgia.

The special, dubbed “The First Interview: Harris & Walz – A CNN Exclusive,” will stream live for pay TV subscribers via CNN.com, CNN connected TV and mobile apps on Aug. 29. The interview also will be available on demand beginning Friday, Aug. 30, to pay-TV subscribers via CNN.com, CNN connected TV and mobile apps, and cable operator platforms.

Harris launched her campaign for the White House just over five weeks ago — and since then, she has not given any sit-down interviews to traditional media outlets, which has garnered criticism from Republicans including Donald Trump and his VP pick, JD Vance. Harris did, however, grant interviews with three content creators at the Democratic National Convention last week in Chicago. She had pledged earlier this month to schedule a sit-down interview with a major media outlet by the end of August.

Harris was anointed the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate when President Joe Biden announced that he would not seek reelection after pressure from party leaders, donors and rank-and-file Democrats, who feared that the aging politician would be unable to defeat Donald Trump. Harris announced Walz, governor of Minnesota, as her VP running mate on Aug. 6. The pair ceremonially accepted the nominations at last week’s celeb-studded DNC.

Meanwhile, Harris and Trump are scheduled to face off in a debate on ABC on Sept. 10. On Tuesday, Trump confirmed he will participate in the event, after he questioned whether ABC News would oversee a “fair debate.” According to the debate’s agreed-on rules, each candidate’s microphone will be muted while the other is speaking.
