KC Animal Services working to find out where stray goats are coming from
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City’s Animal Control officers have a four-legged mystery to solve.
They’ve rounded up a bunch of stray goats in recent weeks, all of which have come from the same popular public park.
The caged area immediately behind KC Pet Project in east Kansas City is nicknamed “The Farm.” It has a series of new tenants – three stray goats, which have been taken in by Kansas City Animal Services officers over a two-week period.
All of them were discovered inside Berkley Riverfront Park. Two of the goats were kept by Pet Project for a week and adopted out to new homes after no one claimed them. A third goat has since taken residence on “The Farm.”

Kansas City Animal Services officers are working to determine who owns the goats. Ryan Johnson, the city’s director of animal services, said he doesn’t have any reports of goats that have gone missing from nearby farms or animal reserves.
“Our priority right now, from an animal services standpoint, is to make sure that while the goats are loose, that none of the goats are injured. If they are, we’ll supervise the impoundment of those first and get them here to be seen by a veterinarian,” Johnson said on Monday.
This latest goat has a yellow ear tag. Johnson said his staff is trying to determine what it signifies. Johnson said some calls to Kansas City Animal Services are from eyewitnesses who say some of the goats appear to limp.
In July, Port KC brought in a series of goats to help maintain the riverfront park’s high grass. However, Port KC posted to social media on August 20th, saying these stray goats don’t belong to them, and they’re working with the USDA to determine who owns the strays.
