King Charles sends private letter to Trump after assassination attempt
King Charles III sent a private letter to Donald Trump on Sunday after the former president survived an assassination attempt over the weekend.
The message was delivered via the UK embassy in Washington, according to Buckingham Palace. Buckingham Palace declined to give details about the contents of the letter.
Trump was injured in his right ear after a sniper opened fire at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. One spectator, Corey Comperatore, was killed in the shooting. Two others were seriously injured.
The gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, was killed.
Leaders across the country, and globe, were quick to condemn the assassination attempt and express well wishes to Trump.
President Joe Biden called on Americans to "lower the temperature in our politics" in an address from the Oval Office on Sunday.
United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Saturday said he was “appalled by the shocking scenes at President Trump's rally and we send him and his family our best wishes.”“Political violence in any form has no place in our societies and my thoughts are with all the victims of this attack,” Starmer wrote in a post on X.
