Lafourche Parish officials issue mandatory evacuation order ahead of Tropical Storm Francine
LAFOURCHE PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Lafourche Parish officials announce mandatory evacuations have begun for residents in low-lying areas throughout the parish.
Evacuations will begin at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10 for residents living in FEMA or state housing units and south of the Leon Theriot Locks.
Francine forecast to make landfall in Louisiana as a Category 2 hurricane Wednesday
A voluntary order has been issued for the Lower Bayou Blue Community, Eagle Island Road, anyone in a mobile home and anyone who “feels vulnerable.”
The parish is also offering shelter at the Lockport Community Center at 5610 Louisiana Highway 1 in Lockport.
Officials advise those needing shelter to bring two days worth of food, water, medicine and bedding along with portable charging cables for electronic devices.
