The Leah Chase School opens for first school year in New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Leah Chase School has officially opened its doors for the 2024-2025 school year.
The school, named after the late chef Leah Chase, is NOLA Public Schools’ first direct-run school since 2006.

School officials said The Leah Chase School will be a case study for the possibility of the district to operate more schools in the future.
“We will be working on the plan and doing it through our strategic plan of action, NOLA PS EVOLVE. So, right now, we are setting the goals and some strategies around that, and we will be ready to show that with the board in October,” said NOLA Public Schools Superintendent Avis Williams.

On Tuesday, Aug. 6, the school welcomed its first students.
The Leah Chase School currently offers classes to students in kindergarten through fifth grade, with plans to add pre-K classes next year.
